About

A field guide for people who actually go

Nomadist is an independent travel publication. It covers thousands of towns and cities — most of them the sort of place larger guides skip — and gives each one an honest read: what it is, what it isn't, and what you'd do there with one, two or three days.

What you'll find here

Every place has its own guide page with a plain description, the things worth seeing, eating and doing, and itineraries you can shape around what draws you there — food, architecture, coastline, nightlife, walking, whatever it is. You can also string several places together into one trip or browse by region and place.

How the guides are made

Guides are assembled from public geographic data, open reference sources and editorial writing, then reviewed and revised over time. Where a place is newly added, its page starts as a short factual entry and gets a full write-up once a reader asks for one. Nothing here is a paid placement: no venue, hotel or tourist board pays to appear or to be described a particular way.

We say when a place isn't for you. Each guide ends with a line about who should look elsewhere, because a recommendation that fits everyone fits nobody.

How the site is funded

Nomadist is free to read and carries no display advertising. Some outbound links to accommodation and travel booking sites are affiliate links, which may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Those links never change what we recommend or how a place is described — see our editorial policy.
