The wind off the Atlantic hits you the moment you step past the whitewashed cottages of the village green. Down at the point, the southern tip of mainland Britain drops straight into boiling surf over jagged, dark green serpentine rock. It is quiet, windswept terrain where people come to walk, watch gannets dive, and eat dressed crab out of paper wrappers. You will argue briefly over which coastal path to take, and both will be steep. Lizard is worth visiting if you want wild coastal walking, fresh shellfish, and genuine solitude on the edge of the ocean.
