It is known for its protected crescent of pale sand and a large full-service marina housing world-class Pacific sportfishing charters. Playa Flamingo is worth visiting if you want offshore billfishing, calm ocean swimming, and quiet evenings above the marina. Look elsewhere if you want walkable colonial plazas, budget surf hostels, or lively street nightlife.

It is a relaxed, residential enclave suited to anglers, families seeking calm seas, and travellers who prefer quiet sunsets over bustling resort crowds.

Start with a 7:00 AM swim along the pale sands of the main beach before the midday heat settles. Grab a lunch of ceviche tico down by the marina basin. Spend the afternoon resting, then walk the short paved incline up Punta Salinas by 5:30 PM to watch the Pacific sunset before a dinner of fresh grilled mahi-mahi. Select 1 Day above to see it.

A third day allows an early boat trip to the Catalina Islands, where giant manta rays drift in the deep currents. Afterwards, take a slow afternoon drive inland through the dry tropical forest to Guaitil to see traditional Chorotega pottery workshops, followed by wood-fired whole red snapper back on the coast.
