Set 100 kilometres southeast of Chiang Mai, Lampang is reached in under two hours by the northern line train. The town made its fortune in nineteenth-century teak logging, leaving behind elaborate wooden merchant houses and Burmese-style wats with tiered timber roofs. It also remains Thailand's centre for hand-painted ceramic rooster bowls. Lampang is worth visiting if you want intact northern Lanna architecture, slow riverfront night markets, and unhurried bowls of khao soi.

What to do in Lampang Lampang Thailand

Lampang sits quietly along the Wang River, arranged around flat lanes of teak merchant houses and low-slung temple compounds. Days run at an honest, provincial speed: mornings belong to market stalls and monastery bells, afternoons slow down in shaded timber coffee shops, and evenings center on eating beside the river. It suits travellers who appreciate unvarnished northern Thai town life, intact woodcraft, and zero rush.
